WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

 “Nayi Umeed, Nayi Zindagi” – Awareness and Sensitisation Programme

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, observed annually on 31 May, Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj, in collaboration with Rotary International District 3011 and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre, organised a comprehensive awareness and sensitisation programme titled “Nayi Umeed, Nayi Zindagi” on 29 May 2026.

The initiative aimed to educate students and the wider community about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, promote preventive healthcare, and encourage mindful and healthy living. As part of the programme, an Oral Cancer Screening Camp was also conducted in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre to promote awareness and early detection of oral health issues associated with tobacco use.

The event was graced by the presence of noted Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and eminent lawyer, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, as the Chief Guest. The school was also honoured to receive a letter of appreciation from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Rekha Gupta, acknowledging the institution’s efforts towards health awareness and social responsibility.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by the Principal, Ms. Deepti Vohra, who highlighted the vital role of educational institutions in nurturing socially responsible, health-conscious, and informed citizens. She encouraged students to make wise choices and stay away from harmful addictions.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, parents, staff members, and 100 students from Asha Ki Kiran NGO. Distinguished members of the Rotary fraternity, including Rtn. Ravindra Gugnani, Rtn. Monika Gugnani, Rtn. Dr. Mona Puri, Rtn. Dr. Priya Oberoi, and members of the District Team, also graced the occasion.

The gathering was addressed by eminent speakers, including Rtn. Arpana Khanna, Mindfulness and Energy Coach, and Dr. Kumar Rajan, Oral Health Specialist, who shared valuable insights on the health hazards of tobacco consumption, the importance of emotional well-being, preventive healthcare, and the need to build a healthier, tobacco-free society. Their inspiring messages encouraged students to make informed and responsible life choices.

A special message from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi was read out during the programme, reinforcing the significance of awareness, prevention, and youth participation in creating a healthier future.

In her address, Chief Guest Ms. Bansuri Swaraj appreciated the collaborative efforts of Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj, Rotary International District 3011, and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre in organising this meaningful initiative. She urged students to become ambassadors of awareness and inspire their peers and communities towards a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Adding a creative dimension to the programme, the students of DPS Vasant Kunj presented a soulful choir performance and a powerful dance presentation on the theme “Say No to Tobacco.” Through music, movement, and expression, the performances effectively conveyed the message of awareness, prevention, and healthy living.

A special anti-tobacco pledge was administered to all present, reaffirming their commitment to choosing health, mindfulness, and a tobacco-free future.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, followed by the National Anthem, a group photograph with the distinguished guests, and an interaction session over high tea.
