  International Day of Disabilities-2023

 

                International Day of Persons with Disabilities

                         

International Day of Disability is celebrated worldwide on 3rd December every year.  The purpose of the celebration is to create awareness and opportunities for People with Disability. The focus is on the Inclusion of people with Disability.

The theme of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is: "United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals) for, with and by persons with disabilities".

DPS Vasant Kunj organized the following activities to celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities from 11th to 15th December, 2023:

 

a)    Classes Nursery to II: A story telling session using the story book-My Appa and his Soundswas conducted for the students by the class teachers to sensitize them towards –people with disability. It was followed by discussing the relevant questions based on the story.The session helped the little ones understand that each one of us is different yet same in so many ways. In addition to this, a colouring sheet related to the story was also given to the children.

b)    Classes III-V: To sensitize the young children and make them aware about their role in creating an inclusive world, an awareness program during Life Skills class was conducted.

The session began by talking about International Day of Disability, why is it celebrated and what is the meaning of Inclusion. It was followed by reading a story of Thukpa for All' in class 3, ‘Wheeling Away ’ in Class 4 and ‘I Didn’t Understand’ in Class 5’. Each story had a specific lesson to teach the children about Inclusion.

The songBe Kind’ by Joe Reilly helped them understand the importance of kindness.The children enjoyed the sessions and were receptive towards the message conveyed to them.

c)    The students of Class 4F held a special assembly on 6th December 2023.The theme of the assembly was the International Disability Day which is celebrated on 3rd December  every year.. The children presented thoughts and a poem based on the theme. The highlight of the assembly was a skit  on the same topic which addressed the issue of inclusiveness and respect towards the differently abled children in the mainstream.
