International Day of Persons with Disabilities
held from 3rd December to 7th December, 2018
“Enable the Disabled; Translate Disability into Ability; Capability - a winning opportunity - Indeed a Reality.”
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed and promoted by the United Nations on 3rd December every year. The vital  purpose of this celebration is to sensitise people and to improve their understanding, thereby removing the social stigma held towards the people with disabilities. 
The theme proposed for this year was  - ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.’ To celebrate this day, a series of events and activities was organised by DPS Vasant Kunj from 3rd December, 2018 to 7th December, 2018.
To mark the day, on 3rd December, 2018 the students were made aware about its importance and our role in it by the Special Educator, Ms. Boski Sharma.Teachers of Classes Nursery and Prep, narrated a story and conducted a ‘Colouring Activity’ whereas in Class I an ‘Empathy Session’ was carried out through various games to emphasize the day’s prominence.  
Special Assemblies for Classes III-V and Classes VI-VIII were conducted to reiterate the significance of dignity and equal rights for the well being of the differently abled. The Special Educator, Ms. Surpreet Oberoi and Senior Mistress, Ms. Geetika Bahl, delivered a short talk on the needs of the people with disabilities. 
A group of nine girls with visual impairment alongwith Ms. Shanta, Principal, National Association for the Blind (NAB), visited the school and performed a medley of dance and music for Class 5. To encourage the feeling of oneness, many activities were held with the students of DPS Vasant Kunj and the children from the NAB. Also, they interacted with them about their interests and dreams. 
Students of Class IX magnificently portrayed their feelings on the topic, ‘Inclusion : Everyone’s Right’ as a part of a Drawing Competition.
To identify with the differently abled, the psychology students of Class XI paid a visit to Muskaan, an NGO working with the people with disabilities. Students were taken on a  tour of the place and its different units. Later, they were briefed about the functioning of the centre and its role in the inclusion of the disabled in the society by Ms. Abha, Coordinator, Muskaan. It was an enriching experience wherein the students reciprocated with the differently abled and made them special in their own way. 
The week long celebrations concluded with the screening of the movies, ‘Barfi’ for Classes III - V  and ‘Iqbal’ for Classes VI-VIII respectively.
