VICTORIOUS AT
DPS-MUN 2006
A COMPLETE SWEEP OVER

The students of
D.P.S. Vasant Kunj brought laurels to the school outshining seven hundred
delegates representing a hundred schools from India and abroad, at the Delhi
Public School Model United Nations (DPS-MUN) organized by D.P.S. R.K. Puram
between the 2nd and the 4th of December 2006. The
delegates represented the Russian Federation, Hungary and Algeria. Aditya Sinha
(G.A. (P), Russia), Nayonika Dutta (ECOSOC, Russian Federation), Prachi Gupta (IAEA,
Hungary) and Raj Luthra (UNDP, Russian Federation) received recognition for best
position papers in their respective committees. Aditya Sinha (G.A. (P), Russia),
Raj Luthra (UNDP, Russian Federation), Kunal Ahuja (IAEA, Russian Federation),
Mriganka Joneja (HRC, Russian Federation) and Surbhi Kanga (IAEA, Algeria) were
adjudged the Best Speakers in their respective committees. Uditi Agarwal (G.A.
(P), Algeria) received a commendation certificate for her efforts. Pranav
Sawhney, who represented D.P.S. Vasant Kunj at the MUN in New York, chaired the
session of the UNDP.
Six sessions,
viz. the General Assembly (Plenary), the Security Council, the IAEA, the ECOSOC,
the UNDP and the HRC were held simultaneously at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi
Road. Frenetic diplomatic parleys and passionate speeches on social, economic
and political issues of contemporary relevance charged the atmosphere with an
aibrrancy that is indeed indescribable. The sessions not only provided the
students with a platform to express their opinions, but also helped them imbibe
the virtue of empathy. It provided them with an opportunity to gain an insight
into how problems are perceived and solutions sought in the international arena.
It was indeed a
proud moment for all the students who have worked tirelessly for the past five
months. The glory that they have brought to the school will go down in the
annals of school history as a memorable one.

MOVING BEYOND THE HANDICAP
Rahul Gambhir, a visually impaired student of Class XII
humanities at Delhi Public school Vasant Kunj has brought laurels to the school
by winning the software display event at Ordinatrix 2006 held at Tagore
International School Vasant Vihar, on July 27th 2006. His ‘Cheque Printing’
software assists the visually impared to easily generate cheques and then print
them. The software can generate customised cheques by default. This gives the
visually impared an edge over the current cheque designing system as it makes
them self reliant. It would be worth mentioning the contribution of ‘National
Association for the Blind’ in the whole process.
