We at D.P.S., Vasant Kunj aim towards holistic development and in course bringing our children opportunities to interact with people who have carved a niche for themselves and are torch bearers of a better tomorrow.

One such dynamic individual is Dr. M. M. Oberoi, D.C.P., Central District (Delhi), who visited our school on 20th October' 2005. School Principal, Shri Vinay Kumar extended a warm welcome and said it was an honour for a teacher to felicitate an old student.

Dr. M. M. Oberoi, a multifaceted person is an I.P.S. officer of the 1992 cadre. Educated at D.P.S., R.K. Puram and I.IT. Delhi he has served in many international projects. He spoke to the students at length about cyber crime and the steps taken by the police to solve the problem. What followed was an interactive session, where the students talked to him about myriad issues ranging from how safe the city is for women to the contribution of the D.P.S. system in his growth as an all round individual.

HAPPY THOUGHTS - ECHOED IN THE SERENE ENVIRONS OF DPS VASANT KUNJ

On the pious morning of children's day the serene environs of D.P.S, Vasant Kunj were blessed and energized by the thought provoking words of Mr. Krishnan Aiyer. Mr. Aiyer who is a member of an NGO called 'Tejgyan foundation', talked to the students of classes 8 and 9. In his 90 minute session he discussed how one could drop fear, resentment and other negative qualities. He discussed with the children the various types of fear and ways to break that fear. With the help of examples and audiovisual aids he helped his young audience to understand larger, universal truths, which one tends to forget in the due course of living a monotonous existence.





Each and every member of the audience was mesmerized by the speaker's soulful words. The session came to an end with an oathtaking ceremony and the children being given the 'Abhay Vardaan Mantra'.


A date with Destiny???

 Men come and men go, but very few dare to change the course of history. Very few have the courage to lead and inspire. One such stalwart is Shri Narendra Kumar, Chairman DPS Society. An illustrious name in the publishing industry, Mr.Kumar has taken DPS to new heights. Being re-elected for a second term, speaks of the enormous faith the society and its members have in him.



 

On 10th September 2004, the staff of DPS Vasant Kunj had the golden opportunity to felicitate Sh. Narendra Kumar, a man who has redefined the word guru. In his welcome address the school principal Shri Vinay Kumar talked of the chairman?s innovative brilliance and dedication to the profession which surpasses all boundaries.

Shri Narendra Kumar in his address to the staff members talked of two key areas ? the empowerment of a teacher and the education of the under privileged. According to him ?there can be no quality education without freedom of thought and a DPS teacher is not a faceless teacher.? To quote him ?DPS has date with destiny, for we are the ones who will write the golden pages of history.?

 

The rendezvous came to an end with the school?s headmistress Mrs. Jyoti Gupta proposing the vote of thanks.

 

Rendezvous with Javed Akhtar

On the 21st July 2004  Delhi Public School Society under the aegis of our visionary Chairman Shri Narendra Kumar presented  the students of Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj the golden opportunity to interact with the in dynamic  Mr Javed Akhtar. Mrs Suleena Sapra, Director EECC, Delhi Public School Society talked of Mr Akhtar?s contribution in various fields and expressed gratitude for this rendezvous. School Principal Shri Vinay Kumar welcomed Mr Akhtar.

Mr Javed Akhtar is perhaps the most well known name among the contemporary poets because he is a multifaceted person and has an identity of his own in the fields of poetry, film and social activism. Even with numerous achievements to his name like the Padamshree and the Gyanpeeth awards the man won the hearts of both teachers and students.


          



In his address to the students of classes XI and XII Mr Akhtar stressed on basic human values which are eternal and absolute and go a long way in sculpting a socially oriented and value based human being. His anecdotes and musings on life?s little nuances were exemplary and touched the hearts of all present. The children talked to him on various topics ranging from the education system to yardsticks of success to Farhan Akhtar?s Lakshya. When asked to read out a few lines of a composition he chose ?Yeh Khel Kya Hai?- a poignant and heartrending account on the truth and validity of a game.

Also present on the occasion were a team of teachers from DPS Guwahati.

This association with Javed Saheb strengthens as he promises to pen the school song which will be sung by generations of Dipsites.

The session came to an end with the school?s Cultural President proposing the Vote of Thanks. 

 

DPS Kids face to face with Mr. Vir Sanghvi

The best known face in the field of media and journalism- Mr. Vir Sanghvi visited Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj for a special rendezvous on the 16th of July. Dressed in a green khadi kurta and a white churidar with a pair of deep meditative eyes, Mr. Sanghvi?s charisma left many spellbound.


          



In his welcome address school principal Shri Vinay Kumar talked of Mr. Sanghvi?s long journey from being the youngest editor of a city magazine at 22 to holding the ship for a national daily like Hindustan Times at 43. With numerous achievements to his name, the multifaceted and dynamic Sanghvi today stands as a stalwart and a mentor for many.

 Mr. Sanghvi addressed the students of class twelve and the question hour that followed was a thought provoking one. He talked in detail about the two worlds that he ruled ? politics and media. When asked about his preferences- he chose the print media over the electronic media. The discussion moved over a plethora of topics ? from religion to economy to education and then food, the man seemed to know anything and everything. But still seemed like Ulysses eager to learn and eager to conquer.

Vice Head Girl Jagriti Kumar proposed the Vote of Thanks at the end of a very enlightening session.

 

Interactive Session with Dr. Chandan Mitra, Editor Pioneer

Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj, in its true tradition of fostering independent thinking all round development of the child?s personality, organized an interactive session on the 8th of April 2004. The guest speaker for the programme was none other than the dynamic Dr Chandan Mitra Editor, Pioneer.


          



The school Principal Shri Vinay Kumar in his welcome address talked of the qualities of humility, dedication and hardwork, which go into sculpting the true personality of an individual. He also talked of how Dr. Mitra, a man of many accomplishments had dedicated twenty years in the field of journalism and today stood as a stalwart and a mentor for many.

Dr. Mitra in the ninety minute session discussed a plethora of topics ? which ranged from validity of readership surveys, investigative journalism, cricket as religion to the ideal education system.

He discussed in detail the lacunas faced by this country ? be it lack of institution building, no collective thinking or a regimented society.

After a truly thought provoking session the school Vice Head Boy Karam Malhotra proposed the Vote of Thanks.
