LIBRARY WORKSHOP
A three day workshop entitled "The Reading Room: Seminar for Librarians" was organized by Council of Education Management, Delhi Public School Society at HRD Centre, Dwarka from 7th Feb. to 9th Feb. 2008.
The workshop was attended by approx. 60 DPS Librarians from all over the country and abroad and was a very enriching, useful and knowledge enhancing experience. During the workshop, the Librarians visited the 18th World Book Fair, where they had a chance to interact with national and international publishers and also bought books for their respective libraries.

Around 20 librarians visited DPS Vasant Kunj. They were welcomed by the school Vice Principal Ms. Bindu Sehgal. She also had an interactive session with them. All the librarians were amazed to see the well organized collection of the libraries which is around 42,000. They had an interactive session with the Senior Librarians Ms. Neeta K.J. She satisfied all their queries about library software, stock verification, selection and management of books. She guided them about "How Teachers and Children can be encouraged to use the library frequently". Some important papers, i.e. list of periodicals and newspapers, reference books and list of important book publishers were also distributed to them.
The librarians had a brief interactive session with the school councellor Dr. Shalini Prasad on "Communication Skills".

REPORT ON THE VISIT BY JAPANESE DELEGATION

Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj played host to a team of 10 members of Japanese Parliament who visited the school on 8th February 2008 to oversee the Japanese classes being conducted by the JICA volunteer, Ms. Kaori Hirose. They were received by the Principal-Mr. Vinay Kumar, Vice Principal-Ms. Bindu Sehgal and Headmistress-Ms. Rachna Gupta and were given a warm traditional welcome by the Japanese enthusiasts of the junior school. After the 'tilak' and lamp lighting ceremony, the guests along with Mrs. A. Ummat, Director-HRD, DPS Society observed the Japanese classes being conducted for the teachers of nine DPS schools. The trainee teachers introduced themselves in Japanese and also sang a Japanese song for their Japanese 'Tomodach'. They also shared their Japanese learning experience with the guests. The trainee teachers expressed their gratitude towards DPS Society for giving them the opportunity to learn a foreign language and towards DPS Vasant Kunj for its warm hospitality.

REPORT ON THE VISIT BY GERMAN DELEGATION

On Tuesday, 29th January 2008, a group of seven members of the German Parliament who are also a part of German-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group visited Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj.
They were first taken on a round of the school. Then a warm welcome was given to the delegation by Mr. Vinay Kumar, Principal, DPS Vasant Kunj. A cultural programme was organized in their honour which constituted of a creative group dance followed by a rendition of a German song.
Next Amoha Sharma of class XI with the help of Power Point presented to the delegation the experiences of the group of Indian students who has visited Germany on a student exchange programme. She also narrated the experience of playing the host to the German students who had come to India as part of the exchange programme.
Finally Mr. J. Winkler, M.P., Chairman of German-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group, thanked the DPS Society and the Principal, DPS Vasant Kunj for being such kind hosts.

Scholar Badge
Ceremony

The green lawns of DPS Vasant
Kunj on the bright morning of 24 January stood
witness to the Scholar Badge Ceremony for the
classes IV, VI, VII. The function was presided
over by Shri Pramod Grover, Vice Chairman DPS
Society. As a tribute to the makers of the
world's largest written constitution, the event
in a small way equivocated the democratic and
socialist fervour of our country. The Indian
flag was hoisted and the dance troupe dressed in
the colours of the flag showcased a semi
classical presentation.
The school Principal, Shri
Vinay Kumar in his address appreciated the
efforts of the young learners and urged them to
work towards nation building. The chief Guest
Shri Pramod Grover spoke of the sons of the soil
and the relevance of celebrating the Republic
Day. He also thanked the parent community for
their constant support.

JASHN-E-BACHPAN
- 2008

19th January, 2008 became a
memorable day for the entire DPS Vasant Kunj
(junior wing) as 1700 students showcased their
talent through a plethora of colourful and
challenging sports activities.
Mr. Kapil Dev, former Captain
of Indian Cricket Team, was the Chief Guest, Mr.
Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society, presided
over the function while Dr. (Ms.) A. Nanda,
Vice-Chairperson, DPS VK was the Guest of Honour.
Mr Pramod Grover, Vice-Chairman DPSS and Mr.
Narendra Kumar, Former Chairman DPSS also graced
the occasion.

Mr Vinay Kumar, Principal,
welcomed the august gathering and espoused the
need of the body and soul to be working in
tandem for a holistic life. Shri Ashok Chandra
exhorted the youth to build nerves of steel and
muscles of iron for the development of the
society through the medium of sports. Mr. Kapil
Dev appreciated the efforts of the school to
promote sports. The welcome song 'Sing a Song of
Freedom' was presented by the choir which
preceeded the release of the brochure by the
Chief Guest and the balloons by all the
luminaries. The show commenced with the symbolic
oath taking ceremony and lighting of the torch.
The grand show was
appreciated by one and all for it's well co-ordinated
series of events. The programme began with the
students displaying various yogasanas. The tiny
tots of Nursery and Prep transported the
spectators to a wonderland of their own creation
through a colourful Disney Parade and circus.
The children from classes I-VI presented a
series of events like Callisthenics, Dumbells
Drill, Gymnastics, Pyramids formation, Aerobics,
Martial Arts etc. thus exhibited their boundless
energy, stamina, discipline and skill. Each item
got a louder round of applause than the other.
Students displayed their tremendous endurance
and stamina through eighteen different races
starting from the Alphabet Race, Caterpillar
Race, Jungle Race, Prop Hurdle Race to Ball
Dribbling, 200 mts., 400 mts., Three-legged Race
etc. The ground was filled with the wild
cheerings of the parents and students alike. The
mass participation of students enabled everyone
to relive their childhood all over again !
Mrs. Rachna Gupta,
Headmistress, DPS Vasant Kunj, proposed the vote
of thanks followed by the National Anthem.

REPORT ON SCHOLAR BADGE
CEREMONY OF CLASSES V, VIII & X HELD ON 20th
DECEMBER 2007

The Scholar Badge Ceremony of
classes V, VIII and X for the academic session
2006-07 was held on the 20th of
December 2007. The spirit of the Christmas
season too was celebrated and the chilly morning
air was filled with the warmth of Christmas
carols as students of class IV enacted the story
of Christ's birth. This was followed by a
pulsating dance in the Jazz form by the senior
students exemplifying the spirit of oneness.The
Principal Mr. Vinay Kumar in his address
welcomed the guests and congratulated the
students who received the Blue blazers and
Scholar badges. Speaking on the occasion the
Chief Guest Shri Indrajit Seth, Chairman,
Managing Committee, DPS Vasant Kunj extolled the
virtues of goodness and the need to spread the
message of love and peace this Yuletide.The high
point of the assembly was the award distribution
ceremony in which more than 500 students
received the Scholar badges. Awards and trophies
of achievements in other fields too were given
out.
Report on the Valedictory Function for the
Mauritian Delegation
 
The
Mauritian delegation of 11 students and 2
teachers which was in Delhi as a part of a
cultural and pedagogical Exchange programme ,
was extended a farewell in the mini auditorium
of DPS VK on 7.dec.07 The Chief guest for the
day was Sri Ashok Chandra , Chairman DPS
Society. The guest of honour for the day was Mr
Choone, high Commissioner Mauritian embassy
.Among other distinguished guests present on the
occasion was Dr Nanda , member of DPS Society.
The function began with the ceremonial lighting
of the lamp and floral welcome to all the
guests. This was followed by the welcome speech
of the Principal Mr Vinay kumar who stressed on
the importance of student exchange programmes
and how these enrich the students. He also
thanked the Indian and Mauritian teachers for
their support and efforts to make the programme
a success. The chairman congratulated everyone
who was part of this exchange programme and
expressed his desire to visit Mauritius. The
Mauritian high Commissioner appreciated the
performances of both the Indian and Mauritian
students and highlighted the cultural
similarities between the two countries.The
students of Mauritius College presented a colourful semi classical dance and a Bhojpuri
dance medley. The Sega dance, a native
dance of Mauritius , presented by them was
enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.. The
students of Mauritius College and DPS VK took a
trip down the memory lane when they shared their
experiences with the audience. The teachers MS
Benayee and MS Angela also cherished their stay
in Delhi in their speeches and thanked everyone
concerned with the programme. The dance medley
by the students of DPS VK had everyone
enthralled.... The Vote of thanks was proposed
by Sargam Sadana of class XI.The
programme concluded with the presentation of
momentos to the Mauritian students during the
lunch time.
REPORT ON VISIT BY GERMAN

DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, Vasant
Kunj, under the aegis of Delhi Public School
Society hosted a delegation from Germany, from
17thOctober to 14th November'2007 .The
delegation comprised one teacher and 5 students
from Morike Gymnasium, Esslingen, Stuttgart. The
DPS Vasant Kunj family accorded them a warm
welcome. Principal, Mr. Vinay Kumar, opined that
such pedagogical and cultural exchange
programmes strengthen the bonds of humanity
between people of diverse backgrounds. During
their stay, the visitors were exposed to an
array of images of the Indian kaleidoscope. The
Indian academic system was displayed to the
visitors during their stint in DPS Vasant Kunj.
From yoga and meditation, Inter-DPS Football and
Quiz FINALS, to classes in Art, Dance, Biology,
Maths, English, Indian History and Culture. The
delegates had a taste of the various facets of
the system. They visited the various interesting
sights of the capital-Rashtrapati Bhavan, India
Gate, National Museum, Delhi Haat, Lotus Temple,
Qutub Minar, Balban's Tomb, Garden of Five
Senses, Bangla Sahib, Old Delhi, Red Fort, Teen
Murti Bhavan and Nehru Planetarium. They
glimpsed India's awesome historical legacy when
they visited Jaipur (25th-26th October) and Agra
(3rdNovember) and its spiritual wealth in their
trip to Haridwar and Rishikesh (6th and 7th
November). On 13th November, a valedictory
session was conducted to bid farewell to the
esteemed guests who were enthralled by their
eventful visit to India and one of its premier
most institutions, DPS Vasant Kunj. |

DPS
VASANT KUNJ - BUKIT PANJANG GOVT. HIGH SCHOOL,
SINGAPORE
COLLABORATIVE PROJECT (DECEMBER 9 TO DECEMBER
18, 2007)

The delegation from Bukit
Panjang Govt. High School, Singapore arrived on
December 9, 2007 to complete the second leg of
the exchange programme with Delhi Public School,
Vasant Kunj. The delegation comprising of nine
students and two teachers were given a
traditional welcome. The next day the delegation
visited Dilli Haat where they shopped for
traditional Indian Handicrafts and sampled
Indian cuisine. On Tuesday, they visited the
architectural wonders Qutub Minar and Lotus /
Bahai Temple. Akshardham Temple was our next
stop followed by a visit to Agra and Fatehpur
Sikri on the 14th December. The
delegates were stumped by the mesmerising beauty
of Taj Mahal and the understated charm of
Fatehpur Sikri. Come Saturday, the delegation
visited the National Museum, India Gate,
Rashtrapati Bhawan, Janpath and C.P. besides the
sightseeing. The delegation also attended
activities such as Pottery, Rangoli Making,
Papier Mache and Dance workshops. The visit was
wrapped up with a lively ceremony where the
delegates performed 'dandiya' and displayed a
power point presentation capturing the special
moments of the programme. |

SPIC MACAY PROGRAMME
A fully thronged amphitheatre
resounded with applause as the legend Habib
Tanvir and his troupe staged the epochal
Charandas Chor as a part of the Spic
Macay Programme. DPS Vasant Kunj was the
venue for this cultural event. School Principal
Shri Vinay Kumar in his address commended the
spirit of the Spic Macay organization which has
taken on the responsibility to make the youth
identify with the ethos of this country. He
stressed on the need of dissolving negativity
that is present in all of us. He also
felicitated the Padma Shri receipient, for his
contribution to a plethora of fields.
 
Tanvir's production was a
rich blend of folk creativity and modern
consiousness. His Naya Theatre used local
Chattisgarhi artists that brought authenticity
to the performance. In his address to the
students, Habib Sahab stressed on the aim of
education, which should be to equip the present
generation with the ability to fight the demons
of corruption and dishonesty. He appealed to the
young audience to identify with their roots and
bring about a social transformation in the
fabric of society

REPORT ON WORLD
AIDS DAY 2007

DPS Vasant Kunj, on 30th
November, 2007 was the setting for the
commemoration of World Aids Day, an initiative
under JAGRIT, the flagship programme of the
Council Of Health and Media, DPS Society.
Dr. Kiran Bedi, Director
General, BPR & D, Delhi Police and recipient of
the Raymon Magsaysay award graced the occasion
as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman,
DPS Society, was the Guest of Honour and he
presided over the function along with other
luminaries-Dr. Usha Luthra, member DPS Society,
Mr. R. Taneja, working committee member, DPS
Society, Ms.Aruna Ummat, Director HRD, DPS
Society, Mrs.Vineeta Kher, Director CEM, DPS
Society, principals, vice principals and
headmistresses from various DPS schools of Delhi
and NCR and Mr. Pratik Kumar, Programme Officer,
UNODC.
The programme commenced with
the guests viewing an exhibition on various
health programmes held by the Council of Health
and Media during 2007 as well as beautiful
posters made by DPS students, highlighting the
various aspects of the scourge of HIV/AIDS. The
contributory schools were the host school,DPS
Gurgaon, DPS Sushant Lok, DPS Maruti Kunj, DPS
International, DPS Indirapuram and DPS Noida.
Thereafter, the guests lit candles symbolizing
eternal hope and were presented with red ribbons
to pledge the renewal of their commitment to the
fight against AIDS.Mr. Vinay Kumar, Principal,
DPS Vasant Kunj, welcomed the august gathering
and exhorted the youth to be positive
individuals and lead principled and honourable
lives to combat AIDS. The school choir rendered
the welcome song,' Jeene Ki Umang', evoking the
tremendous role of hope and will power, in
ensuring the execution of a meaningful life. Mr.
Ashok Chandra, in his address opined that the
dire need of the hour was to not only possess
knowledge to protect oneself from the
debilitating disease but to also spread
the awareness, AIDS being an all-pervading evil.
He also emphasized on sensitization of the
masses for its prevention as well as acceptance
of the victims in the mainstream society. Dr.
Kiran Bedi expressed joy that India had a
wonderful future in its vibrant youth force. She
asserted that prevention could be achieved
through the golden rule- internalization of
education. She roused the youth to practise the
noble values that they were imparted and prevent
any wrongdoing, leading to the creation of the
finest individuals. They would then emerge as
true leaders, empowered with the spirit of
service, integrity, dedication and sacrifice.
Mrs.Aruna Ummat, presented the annual report of
Jagrit in which she documented the various
programmes implemented, geared towards
dissemination of health-related information,
enabling students to lead healthy lives. Dr.
Usha Luthra, also enlightened the assembly by
highlighting the need to increase skills to
augment the youth's self-confidence to fight
against the disease. The function was bejeweled
by enthusiastic performances by students.

SPIC MACAY PROGRAMME
Founded in 1977, SPIC MACAY has been working
towards promoting awareness regarding our rich
cultural heritage amongst the youth of our
country.
Following in this tradition, a Spic Macay
programme was organised in DPS Vasant Kunj on 20th
of November 2007. Ms. Kaushiki Chakraborty, a
young singer of world repute was to perform
along with Mr. Saradindo Adhikari, well known
tabla master and Mr. Somen Podar, the
ever-so-famous harmonium player.

The function began with the lighting of the lamp
followed by presentation of bouquets. The
function was graced by our respected Principal
Mr. Vinay Kumar and Vice Principal Mrs. Bindu
Sehgal. The audience consisted of school
children from various classes. Ms. Kaushiki
began with a raga popularised by the Bollywood
movie ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, known as
‘Albela Sajan Ayo De’. She sung it in her
own pleasant and un-imitable voice. She kept
enlightening the audience with the various
intricacies of a song. She also welcomed
questions from the audience. During the
interactive session she sang the Raag Malkas
and Tarana in Nad Bhairav on
request. The performance came to an end with a
bhajan song followed vote of thanks by Vice
Principal Mrs. Bindu Sehgal. The Principal
complimented Ms. Kaushiki on her performance and
praised her as a good teacher for explaining
music well in the layman’s language.
The programme was a great success and the
children enjoyed it thoroughly. It surely made
us proud of our great Indian culture and
heritage.

CEREMONY FOR CLASSES X
&
XII

DPS Vasant Kunj organised
Scholar Badge Ceremony on 23r
November 2007 for classes X and XII to
felicitate its young scholars for their
outstanding achievements in the field of
academics. The function was presided over by the
Chairman of DPS Society Mr. Ashok Chandra.The programme began with the
ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Principal Mr. Vinay Kumar, in his speech,
welcomed the chief guest and the proud parents
of the recipients of various awards and
motivated the students to continue honing their
academic and co-curricular skills to emerge as
well-rounded scholars and citizens of the
country. This was followed by a melodious
patriotic song by the school choir that
reinforced the message of love for the country
and a vibrant dance sequence celebrating Life
and the Spirit of Friendship. In his address.
Mr. Ashok Chandra expressed his fondness for the
school; his appreciation for its competitive
spirit and congratulated the awardees.
This was followed by the
award ceremony wherein students were awarded
gold medals for their outstanding and consistent
performance in academics for seven consecutive
years. Among the other categories of awards that
were given away were Subject Proficiency Badges
and Ties.Vice-Principal Ms. Bindu
Sehgal proposed the vote of thanks and the
function concluded with the National Anthem.

REPORT
ON ARTHASHASTRA
- 2007

With the
Indian economy surging ahead globally, we at DPS
couldn't have been far behind. The teachers and
students of DPS Vasant Kunj hosted
'Arthashastra-2007' on 23rd
November 2007. It was an event full of fun
and bullish tendencies, mind boggling creativity
and spiralling enthusiasm. The fest saw a host
of activities spread throughout the day.
We began with the 'Global Economic Conference'
which was a group discussion focussing on the
global unified currency based on the Model
United Nations where each participating team was
allotted a country. The event was judged by Mr.
Surajit Mazumdar, Professor at the Institute of
Studies in Industrial Development.
This was followed by the 'Knock-Out' in which
the qualifiers of the Jam Session held moved
into the bigger fight for the final round. This
event was adjudged by Ms. Deepa Saran, Reader,
Department of Business Economics, South Campus,
Delhi University and Mr. Gaurav Gala,
Journalist, Headlines Today.
The 'Ecom-Lotto Event' was a modified form of
tambola quizzing on economics, commerce and
business studies. Finally, we had an hour full
of creativity with a round of Ad-Wrestle and
Logonomics as a part of the event called
'Product Promotion'. This was judged by Mr.
Sunit Goel of KGL Systel Ltd. and
Mr. Dipendra Rawal, Junior Director at the
National School of Drama.

GURUPURAB ASSEMBLY
27th Nov'07
T he entire junior school
gathered today to celebrate the 538th birth
anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the
first Guru of the Sikhs. The children threw
light on Guru Nanak's birth and teachings and
also on the principle of equality and freedom to
follow one's own faith. The assembly was begun
by the Headmistress, Mrs. Rachna Gupta, with the
school prayer followed by a melodious song sung
in the praise of the great Guru by the junior
choir.

The children thanked the
Principal for broadening their horizons and
allowing to conduct the morning assemblies where
all festivals are celebrated with equal zeal and
enthusiasm. The principal, Mr. Vinay Kumar,
addressed the gathering and told the children
the real meaning of the word 'Sikh' which is a
'learner'. He advised them to be sincere towards
their studies and fulfil their duty as a
student.The Principal and the
Headmistress encouraged the young scholars of
classes III and IV by giving away the
Proficiency Prizes for the academic session
2006-2007. The assembly ended with the National
Anthem.

DPS Vasant Kunj celebrated
Children's Day on 14 November 2007 with gaiety.
The faculty presented a special assembly for the
occasion. It commenced with the principal, Mr.
Vinay Kumar greeting the students and conveying
to them the blessings and best wishes of the
staff, on the joyous occasion. An inspiring
'thought for the day' followed. The school news
was also delivered, summing up the momentous
events in the school calendar. The teachers'
choir presented two scintillating songs, ' Aa
Chal Ke Tujhe' and a parody of the latest
chartbusters, 'Om Shanti Om' which was followed
by a humorous poem, 'Yeh Bechare' rendered by
yet another teacher. The assembly concluded with
the national anthem.

In the words of Albert
Einstien -" It is infact, nothing short of a
miracle that the modern methods of instruction
have not entirely strangled the holy curiosity
of inquiry."
The miracle was truly seen at
work in the atmosphere that prevailed at DPS
Vasant Kunj on the 2nd of November 2007.
Under the aegis of the DPSS, DPS Vasant Kunj
played a proud host to the concluding rounds of
the Inter DPS Quiz Competition. The event saw a
confluence of 28 enthusiasts from 14 Delhi
Public Schools situated across the length and
breadth of the country.The quizmasters
Karam Malhotra, Arka Banarjee and Rishabh
Bhargava ensured that the participants were on a
perpetual roller coaster ride, buzzing, nerve
wrecking and sighing.Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman
DPSS, Mrs.Aruna Ummat, Director HRD, DPSS and
Mr. Vinay Kumar, Principal DPS Vasant Kunj
witnessed the final round of the Quiz.The prize
distribution ceremony saw the principal, Mr.
Vinay Kumar welcome the gathering. He thanked
the chairman for giving the school an
opportunity to host the function. Further, he
highlighted the significance of the distinction
between ' reaction' and 'response' especially
with respect to a student's life.The tiny tots
of the Shiksha Kendra and the school choir
touched the chords with a melodious rendition of
the songs - " Tu zinda hai" and "Jis path par
hai" respectively.
The chief guest of the
occasion, Mr. Ashok Chandra congratulated the
school for hosting an enthralling final round.
He found it heartening to discover the hidden
talent and intellect in the young participants.
Mr. Chandra opined that the Delhi Public School
system wishes to achieve excellence in every
aspect of development and the quiz was one such
aspect. He encouraged the participants to
furnish new ideas, anticipate and think for
themselves as individuals.The Chief Guest gave
away the prizes to the winners Mitul Dey
Chowdhary and Debottan Chattopadhyay of DPS Ruby
Park, Kolkatta who stood first. DPS Panipat
Refinery bagged the second position and DPS
Mathura Road was adjudged third.The ceremony
concluded with Mrs. Aruna Ummat, Director HRD,
Delhi Public School Society proposing the vote
of the thanks.
DIWALI
ASSEMBLY
2nd Nov. 2007

Diwali symbolises victory of
goodness over evil. This glittering festival was
celebrated today in the school by the students
of class III with great fervour and gaiety. The
assembly began with the morning prayer by the
Headmistress, Mrs. Rachna Gupta, followed by a
melodious bhajan in praise of Lord Rama
presented by the choir of class - III.
The children had put together
their thoughts and told us about the essence of
Diwali in the form of narration and a song. Our
Principal, Mr. Vinay Kumar, blessed the children
and motivated them to follow the principles of
Lord Rama and to have an eco-sensitive and safe
Diwali. He asked them to celebrate this festival
by spreading love and happiness around
•
us.
The proficiency prizes for
the academic year 2006-2007 were given away by
the Principal and the Headmistress for classes V
& VI.

and NCR Inter DPS Football Tournament held from
15"' to
19"' Oct 2007 at DPS Vasant Kunj Report on the

Oct. '07

The Inter DPS Football
Tournament at DPS Vasant Kunj, organized under
the aegis of DPS Society, came to a close with
the Valedictory Function on 19th October
2007 after a scintillating final match between
DPS RK Puram and DPS Vasant Kunj. The Chief
Guest for the occasion was Sh. Ashok Chandra,
Chairman. DPS Society and the Guest of Honour Sh.
Syed Shahid Hakim, an Olympian and ex-FIFA

Sports Control Board of the Indian Air Force).
Also present on the occasion was Arjuna Awardee,
Mr. Balwan Singh, Kabbadi Coach for India.
In his address Principal
Vinay Kumar welcomed the guests. The Chairman,
in his speech lauded the spirit of sports and
said that achievement lay not in winning but in
having played fairly and in the true spirit of
the game. Mr. Hakim applauded the young
footballers for their outstanding performance
and said that he could spot many future national
players among them.
A spectacular dance
performance on the song "Chak-de" exuding
energy and solidarity highlighted the spirit of
the tournament. This was followed by a
glittering prize distribution ceremony. Besides
the over-all prizes, individual prizes too were
given out. DPS Vasant Kunj was declared
champions with a record of no goal being scored
against them. DPS RK Puram was the first Runner
Up and the second Runner Up position was bagged
by DPS Greater Noida.
The evening came to a close
with the Vice Principal Mrs. Bindu Sehgal
proposing the vote of thanks.

AND NCR INTER DPS Football Tournament held from
15th to 19th Oct' 07 at DPS Vasant Kunj
Under the aegis of Council of
Sports. DPS Society, DPS Vasant Kunj hostedthe
Delhi and NCR Inter DPS Football tournament for
Boys under 14 from 15th Oct -19th Oct'
2007.
The tournament was
inaugurated on Oct 15th'
07 amidst great
enthusiasm with a total of 12 teams
participating for the coveted trophy. A host of
luminaries both from the sports world and the DPS Society graced the Inaugural Ceremony. The
presence of Dr. Birumal, former Chief Coach, NIS
Patiala and Mr. Sunil Chhetri, member ofthe
Indian football team and Shri Ashok Chandra,
Chairman, DPS Society was truly inspiring.
Numerous matches were played
through the week and the tournament came to a
close with the valedictory function on 19th
Oct after a scintillating final match between DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Vasant Kunj. The awe
inspiring presence of Shri Sayed Shahid Hakim,
an Olympian and Ex FIFA referee and Arjuna
awardee, Mr. Balwan Singh, Indian Kabbadi Coach
and Chairman, Shri Ashok Chandra added glitter
to the show. The event came to a close with a
glittering prize distribution ceremony.
Champions, DPS Vasant Kunj bagged the coveted
trophy with the record of no goal being scored
against them in the entire tournament. DPS
R.K.Puram was adjudged first Runner Up and the
2nd Runner Up position was bagged by DPS Greater
Noida. Daman Dutta of DPS Vasant Kunj was
declared the Player of the tournament while
Kishlay Sajwan also of DPS Vasant Kunj won the
Player of the Year trophy. The Best Goalkeeper
ofthe tournament award went to Kaudilya of
DPSR.K.Puram.

A special assembly was
conducted in the junior school to celebrate Id.
The Headmistress, Mrs. Rachna Gupta, began the
assembly with a prayer. The school choir
rendered a melodious qawali paying reverence to
Allah 'followed by a short speech on the
preachings of Prophet Mohammad. The Principal,
Mr. Vinay Kumar, encouraged the children to
contribute to the society to by spreading
happiness around them.

A REPORT
Under
the aegis of Council of Sports, DPS Society, DPS
Vasant Kunj organized Delhi and NCR Inter DPS
Football tournament for Boys under 14 from 15th
Oct. to 19th Oct. 2007.
Inaugural Ceremony:
The tournament was inaugurated on October 15,
2007 amidst great enthusiasm and cheering at the
grounds of DPS Vasant Kunj. A total of 12 teams
from various DPSs are competing over a period of
five days for the coveted trophy. The inaugural
ceremony was a glittering event honoured by the
presence of the Chief Guest Dr. Birumal, former
Chief Coach, NIS Patiala (presently football
expert, Bangladesh Institute of Sport, Dhaka)
and Mr. Sunil Chhetri, Member, Indian Football
Team. Also motivating the students by their
sheer presence were Sh. Ashok Chandra, Chairman,
DPS Society; Sh. Narendra Kumar, former
Chairman, DPS Society; Dr. (Ms.) A. Nanda, Vice
Chairperson, Managing Committee, DPS Vasant Kunj;
Sh. Pramod Grover, Member, DPS Society and Ms.
Vinita Kher, Director-CEM, DPS Society. The
Principal Sh. Vinay Kumar in his address
welcomed the guests of honour and the
participating teams. Speaking on the occasion
the Chairman, DPS Society Sh. Ashok Chandra
stressed the need for team work and enthusiastic
participation of the students. The school choir
presented a motivating song 'Aao Khele Mil Kar
Hum'. The participating teams marched to the
accompaniment of the Delhi Police Band.
The tournament was declared open by the Chief
Guest Dr. Birumal who also expressed his
appreciation at the enthusiastic participation
in the event. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sunil
Chhetri urged the sportsmen to strike the right
balance between academics and sports.
