The journey began with a few members who got together in their efforts to save the environment. Today, the CEEC comprises of
more than 100 active members. The council consists of 4 office bearers, the
presidents are Sabiya Mehra & Preeta Choudhry and the vice presidents are
Sakshi Agarwal and Anchal Saraf. The core team, consisting of members who have been active for over 5 years, executive members and senior members. These members are awarded certificates of active participation at the end of each academic year.
Over the year these students have participated in several activities in and outside school with organizations such as TERI, DA, INTACH, WWF and kids of tigers to name a few.
We have been conducting air monitoring workshops every year to check the pollution levels before and after Diwali. Anti cracker campaigns are also carried out.

Pre and post monsoon water monitoring also takes place each year. Some of the parameters of testing are hardness nitrate and chlorine content.
A herbal garden has also been set up several plants of medicinal value are being grown and maintained.
To flight the menace of harmful environmentalists have been instrumental in spreading awareness an dreducing the consumption such as jute, paper and cloth bags are being used and promoted.
A water harvesting unit was set up in our school premises which was inaugurated by our Chief Minister, Ms. Sheila Dixit on 11th October
2002.
Various other activities include tree plantation, promotion of herbal colours on holi, water treatment, waste management.
Achievements
3 students from the council bagged the 2nd prize in an international competition organized by Volvo adventures, Sweden for their project on rain water harvesting.
Another dedicated environmentalist Vaanchita Bhatia XII has been chosen by Development Alternatives to
represent Delhi at Dubai. She has been chosen as 'The Global Youth Coordinator'.
With the help and blessings of our Chairman, Shri Narendra Kumar and Director, CEEC, D.P.S. Society,
Ms. Suleena Sapra we have been successful in all our endevours. We hope to bring about a change in the degrading condition of the environment.
2005-2006
Environment Club
Activities
□ Eco
friendly 'Holi' was celebrated in school by way of selling Eco Friendly Holi
colours with the help of Development Alternatives.
□ Our school
participated in the 'Tiger Fest' held at Shri Ram school, Vasant Vihar. A stall
was setup by the children.
□ Earth Day
was celebrated in school on 19th April where in the programme
included chanting of Shlokas, a dance drama and pledge. During this assembly
students of the council were awarded certificates for active participation.
Prize winning entries of various competitions were also awarded certificates.
□ INDIA had
organized the 'Chinmaya Mission' annual meet, where the
children had
put up a stall with DPS Dwarka.
□ A
Pre-monsoon water testing session was
conducted in our
school on 29 April with the help of Development Alternatives.
□ A Transport
Survey of our school staff and students was done in an effort to create
awareness about the pollution levels in the air and the project is ongoing.
□ On 11 and
12th August 2005, tree plantation drive was inaugurated by our
Chairman Sh. Narendra Kumar and joined by our Principal, Sh. Vinay Kumar,
Co-Chairman Sh. Ashok Chandra and the Chairman, DDA alongwith the members of
CEEC.
□ A workshop
for class 7th and 8th was organized by Kids for Tiger on
30Ih August 2005. The workshop highlighted about the dwindling
population of tigers and how important they are for the sustenance of our
environment.
□ Members of
Environment Council visited the Wazirabad water treatment plant in August 2005
to see the functioning of the plant.
□ Post
monsoon water testing was held in our school premises on 31st August
2005. Water samples taken from various areas in South Delhi.
□ Students of
our school planted trees at Garhmandi, near river Yamuna on 12th September 2005.
□ DPS Vasant
Kunj, under the aegis of the DPS Society, participated in the 'CLEAN GANGA'
programme held on 15th September 2005 ate IIC. This effort was
supported by 'Sankat Mochan' foundation.

2006-2007
ENVIRONMENT CLUB
ACTIVITIES
□ Green school programme was organized by CSE (Centre for Science &
Environment) and DPS Society from 10th to 12th March 2006,
which was attended by
CEEC teachers of different DPS Schools. The aim was mainly
environmental audit assessing the practices being followed by the school and
knowing where the school stands which is being done by the method of comparative
analysis.
□ Our students participated in the Earth Day celebrations on 22nd
April 2006 organised by Clean India. The students of classes V, VI & VIII
participated in the meet. The Chief Guest was the Environment Minister who
flagged of the march and presided over the function. The pledge was read out by
Nafisa Ali
and students of class V, Parul was interviewed by a news reporter.
□ A teacher's workshop was organized by Development Alternatives on 26l
April 2006 wherein the teachers were introduced to various aspects dealing with
environment (water, air, waste) and the they were even taught water testing, air
monitoring and were made aware about the various programmes for children and
avenues available for them. It was attended by Ms. Adita Saxena and Ms. Ritika
Arora.
□ A
collage making competition was organised for classes VII & VIII in school.
□ Green
Olympiad was organised by TERI on 2nd September 2006 in which 17 students
participated the result is awaited.
□
Rangoli Competition was organised in DPS Sushant Lok in which our school won a
participation trophy.
□ A water testing programme was organized on 5th and 6th
July. Water samples were collected and tests were conducted. 2 people from Clean
India came with a kit.
□ A workshop was organized for teachers by Kids for Tiger for "The Tiger
Walk" which was held at Sri Ram school where in the teachers were informed about
the silent walk and preparations for the event which was to be held at India
Gate on 11th July 2006. .
□ Centre for Science and Environment organized a workshop for Green
Schools & we were told about how to work and how points are going to be
allotted. It was held on 28th July.
□ A teacher's
Orientation
Programme named "Kids for Tiger" was organized on 4th
August 2006 to discuss the activities to be held in the coming session. It
was attended by Adita Saxena and Ritika Arora .
□ Clean India had organized Vanmahotsav in Sanskriti School on 29th
July 2006. In which the students of class IX and class VIII participated.

DPS Vasant Kunj this year has become the
lead school
and we have 20 other schools under us.

The school did an energy audit along with
CLEAN and we were one of the first school to
complete the audit successfully.

Environment Week was organized by CEEC
during which a number of activities were
conducted like Face Painting for Class VII,
Water Monitoring for Class XI and a Guest
Speaker Mrs. Usha Srinivasan, Sr.

was invited. It was a fruitful experience for
students.

Father Agnel Talent Fest 2007:
Our school participated in Father Agnel Talent
Fest whose theme was 'Global Warming'. Our
school won the Rolling Trophy.

participated in the Akshay Urja Essay
Competition organized by TERI on 12th
August 2007 for which our school has been
given a Solar Energy Educational Kit.
